A Public Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. with funeral services immediately following. The Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas. A Repast Dinner will follow the burial at Flory Meeting Hall - Douglas County Fairgrounds 2120 Harper Street Lawrence, Kansas 66046. Flowers can be ordered from Porterfield's Flower Shop (785-354-1707) and can be delivered to Victory Bible Church (1942 Massachusetts Street) on Thursday, September 15th after 9am. Mrs. Vivian Lee (Galloway) Tubbs passed from this life on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born on Wednesday May 22, 1931, in Murphy, Mississippi. She was the fourth of nine children born to Molester and Leanna (Turnipseed) Galloway. She attended school in Rural Washington County, Mississippi. Growing up as the child of a farmer, Vivian mastered the skills of farm life, such as butchering, sausage making, smoking and curing meat, gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking, baking from scratch, and canning and preserving as well. Her exceptional ability to cook became her main responsibility and chore of choice. At an early age Vivian knew she loved God and family deeply, and at the age of fourteen, she dedicated her life to God. With the permission of her parents, on February 21, 1947, in Arcola, Mississippi, at the young age of 16, she married a young ambitious farm boy named Joseph Tubbs who was 19 years of age. On November 8,1948, she gave birth to their first of fifteen children (10 boys and 5 girls) and took great pride in being a wife, mother, and homemaker. After years of hard work and saving with the goal of purchasing and building their own farm, Joseph and Vivian realized a change was necessary due to the economic, educational, social, racial, and political barriers ever present. The push for social justice brought on by the Civil Rights Movement was the pivotal moment to relocate the family. With the support and urging of immediate and extended family, the decision was made to move to Lawrence, Kansas in the early 1960's. With the move to Lawrence came new opportunities and memorable experiences. She discovered a newfound independence by learning to drive, which afforded her the economic benefit and freedom to work outside of the home. In the mid 1960's she worked for Saint John's The Evangelist Catholic Parish in Lawrence, Kansas performing housekeeping duties and preparing meals for the Parish Priests and Priest in training. In the late 1960's she began working at the old Samaritan Lodge Nursing Home. In the early 1970's she earned her certifications for CMA as well as CNA which afforded her the opportunity to take on an additional full-time job at the old Valley View nursing home. She later moved to cooking full time at Valleyview where she remained employed until the early 1980's. For thirteen years she worked as the cook for Delta Chi Fraternity in Lawrence, Kansas. Over the years she worked at various sororities and fraternities as a cook, but the Delta Chi boys remained dear to her heart. Around the holidays she prepared cakes, pies, and cobblers by the hundreds to fulfill orders that were placed well in advance. Her wedding cakes had lasting memories that held a special measure of love and blessings. Mrs. Tubbs' life was built around the love of God, family, friends and neighbors. Her service in the church had no limits or time restrictions; and she viewed every member and their children as part of her own family. Her daily walk with God was evident by the life she lived and how she treated anyone who crossed her path. She always said "I want to live a life so that God can use me anywhere and anytime." She was a member of the Church of God, Lawrence, Kansas under the leadership of Pastor Franklin Galloway and later the Community Church of God, Lawrence, Kansas under the leadership of Pastor Jesse Hunter until her death. She served as the Sunday school teacher, Christmas and Easter program coordinator and later as the Mother of the Church. She was always involved with helping the youth at church and in the community. She served on the Board of Directors of the Ballard Community Center for many years. She is survived by four daughters: Mattie L. (Agboola) Adelaja of Fresno , California, Vivian D. (Harold) Nelson and Dorothy A. (Gary) Hall, both of Lawrence, Kansas, Jacqueline Boggs of Anaheim, California; Daughter-In-Laws Sandra "Faye" Tubbs of Lawrence, Kansas and Lisa Tubbs of Kansas City, Kansas; four sons: Timothy (Yvonne)Tubbs of Douglasville, Georgia, Michael L.(Barbara) Tubbs of Lawrence, Kansas. James E. Tubbs of Houston, Texas, Johnny R. (Esther) Tubbs of Woodbridge, Virginia. Other survivors include two brothers, Charles (Sandra) Galloway, Coffeeville, Kansas and Mickey Galloway, Arlington, Texas. 32 Grandchildren, 53 Great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All of her siblings' children were always seen as an extension of her own children and she loved them and disciplined them with the same love and understanding! She is preceded in death by both parents: Molester and Leanna Galloway; Husband: Joseph Tubbs Sr.; Six siblings: Major "MG" Galloway, Nancy B. Galloway, ST Galloway, Franklin D. Galloway, Huey "Bo" Galloway and John W. Galloway. Children: Joseph "Bud" Tubbs Jr., Gloria D. Tubbs, Ronnie Tubbs, David Tubbs, ST Tubbs, Larry E. Tubbs, Huey P. "Peter" Tubbs. Grandchildren: Thi-Wan Shepard, Stacey Hall, Eibe Chris Williams, and a Great Grandchild, Josen Shepard.
